In an exciting new configuration, each single-CD volume in the Setlist series will consist of remastered .mp3-ready live tracks drawn from each artist’s vast archive of live album recordings. The CD is embedded with computer-accessible .pdf files containing liner notes essays, discographical information, photography, tiffany bracelets for sale, bonus features, and more. The package itself will be a plastic-free, 100% recycled paper, recyclable eco-friendly digi-pak, and the product line will be priced for budget-minded consumers.

The Setlist series takes advantage of the multitudes of live recordings – some rarities, others released on best-selling albums, and still some others remaining previously unreleased in the vaults – until now. In the case of Alabama, Quiet Riot, and REO Speedwagon, at least half the Setlist tracks are previously unreleased. Multiple unreleased tracks or rarities can also be found on the Setlists for Blue Oyster Cult, Jefferson Airplane, Judas Priest, and Kansas. (Specifics are delineated in the album listings below.)

The Setlist series follows up Legacy’s successful Playlist series launched two years ago. Each volume reflected an insider’s musical tastes, with familiar tracks and hits alongside rarities, out-of-print, hard-to-find, and unreleased material that is characteristic of the Legacy experience.

The Playlist series has grown to include music from across the entire musical spectrum, from classic rock (Clash, Electric Light Orchestra, Janis Joplin, Lovin’ Spoonful, Ozzy Osbourne, Lou Reed) to modern rock (Korn, Crash Test Dummies), pop (Backstreet Boys, Toni Braxton, John Denver, *NSYNC, Britney Spears), R&B (Destiny’s Child, Ginuwine, R. Kelly, Luther Vandross), hip-hop (Cypress Hill, OutKast), jazz (Miles Davis, Billie Holiday), and country (Alabama, Brooks & Dunn, Johnny Cash, David Allen Coe, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Lonestar, Martina McBride). Similarly, the Setlist series will follow the same path as future batches of releases are announced.

An aggressive sales, marketing, promotion, and advertising campaign will be launched by Legacy and Sony Music in support of the Setlist series. The track listings for the first 11 volumes are as follows:

Hagerstown Woman Sentenced to 46 Months in Prison

The U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland issued the following news release:

U.S. District Judge Marvin J. Garbis sentenced Olusola Idowu, age 57, of Hagerstown, Maryland, today to 46 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for wire fraud, bankruptcy fraud, making false statements in a bankruptcy proceeding, filing a false tax return and failing to file a corporate tax return. Judge Garbis also entered an order requiring Idowu to pay restitution of $425,000.

The sentence was announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein and Special Agent in Charge Rebecca Sparkman of the Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigation, Washington, D.C. Field Office.

"Today’s sentencing of Olusola Idowu emphasizes the Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigation and U.S. Attorney’s Office will continue their aggressive pursuit of those who use fraudulent methods in an attempt to corrupt our Nation’s tax system," stated Rebecca Sparkman, cuff Links, Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigation Special Agent in Charge, Washington DC Field Office. "Honest taxpayers have been reassured today that no one is above the law especially when the integrity of tax administration is at stake."

Idowu was the owner and president of SSS Nutrition & Dietetic Care Services (SSS Nutrition). SSS Nutrition was a health care services company specializing in the "Optifast" weight management program. According to testimony at her five day trial, between November 2003 and December 2008, Idowu made false representations to financial companies in order to obtain mortgages and loans and lied to, and concealed information from, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in relation to her Chapter 13 bankruptcy petition.

According to trial evidence, on November 7, 2003, Idowu filed a voluntary Chapter 13 Bankruptcy Petition in United States Bankruptcy Court in Maryland, then on May 17, 2004, Idowu requested the dismissal of her bankruptcy petition, which was granted by the bankruptcy court on May 18, 2004. Witnesses testified that on June 17, 2004, Idowu received a $400,000 loan from Option One Mortgage for the purchase of a residence at 11047 Sani Lane in Hagerstown, which falsely represented that her son was employed as a nutritionist at SSS Nutrition, had five years experience, earned $10,000 per month, and had $100,000 in a bank account. On that same date, evidence showed that Idowu obtained two bridge loans from Hyattsville Properties, LLC; in the amount of $85,000 and $50,000. On September 9, 2004, Idowu obtained another $14,000 loan from Hyattsville Properties, LLC and on August 26, 2005, Idowu obtained a loan for $50,000 with Hyattsville Properties, LLC.

Testimony showed that on June 29,Charm pendant, 2004, Idowu sought and obtained an order vacating the May 18, 2004 order dismissing the bankruptcy petition. On September 30, 2004,watches, Idowu falsely testified in U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Maryland that she filed tax returns on behalf of her business for tax years 2001through 2003 with the Internal Revenue Service, when in fact, she had not filed corporate tax returns for those years.

Evidence presented at trial showed that on January 19, 2005, Idowu obtained a $512,tiffany,550 loan from Long Beach Mortgage for the refinancing of the property at 11047 Sani Lane, falsely representing on the refinancing loan documents that her son was employed as a nutritionist at SSS Nutrition, had five years experience, earned $11,120 per month, and had $138,000 in a bank account.

According to evidence presented at trial, on June 14, 2006, Idowu filed her 2005 federal individual income tax return, falsely claiming her son as her dependent and reporting a total income of $19,000, when in fact, evidence showed that her income was substantially more than that.

United States Attorney Rosenstein thanked the Greenbelt Office of the United States Trustee Program, the Department of Justice agency that supervises bankruptcy cases and trustees, for its assistance in this investigation and prosecution.

The Maryland Mortgage Fraud Task Force was established to unify the agencies that regulate and investigate mortgage fraud and promote the early detection, identification, prevention and prosecution of mortgage fraud schemes. This case, pendants, as well as other cases brought by members of the Task Force, demonstrates the commitment of law enforcement agencies to protect consumers from fraud and promote the integrity of the credit markets. Information about mortgage fraud prosecutions is available http://www.justice.gov/usao/md/Mortgage-Fraud/index.html.

This law enforcement action is part of President Barack Obama’s Financial Fraud Enforcement Task Force. President Obama established the interagency Financial Fraud Enforcement Task Force to wage an aggressive, coordinated and proactive effort to investigate and prosecute financial crimes. The task force includes representatives from a broad range of federal agencies, regulatory authorities, inspectors general, and state and local law enforcement who, working together, bring to bear a powerful array of criminal and civil enforcement resources. The task force is working to improve efforts across the federal executive branch, and with state and local partners, to investigate and prosecute significant financial crimes, ensure just and effective punishment for those who perpetrate financial crimes, combat discrimination in the lending and financial markets, and recover proceeds for victims of financial crimes.

United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein commended Assistant United States Attorneys Peter M. Nothstein and Bonnie S. Greenberg, who prosecuted the case.

Boy held in acid attack on two children

Something about the way the older boy suggestively grabbed at her 11-year-old daughter, Nala, drove Gwendolyn Davis to tell him firmly she didn’t want him playing with the girl.

A day later, Davis believed it when Cook County prosecutors alleged Wednesday that the 13-year-old boy purposefully poured drain cleaner containing sulfuric acid onto the girl and a 10-year-old playmate.

Though the boy’s family claims the incident in West Garfield Park was a tragic accident, the result is that Nala Armstrong and her playmate Adrian Bennett each suffered chemical burns on their heads and upper torsos, key rings, officials said.

"I’m guessing it was a jealousy thing," Davis said Wednesday, standing beside Adrian’s mother, Loretta Corbett, tiffany, outside the University of Chicago Medical Center’s burn unit. Both children are being treated there, with Nala suffering burns on her forehead, eyelids, cheek and arm. Adrian suffered burns to the back of his head and right arm, hospital officials said.

Surgery is likely for Nala, said Dr. Lawrence Gottlieb, director of the burn unit, calling the injuries "bad."

The 13-year-old, whom the Tribune is not naming because he is a minor, was ordered held by a Juvenile Court judge on a delinquency petition with a charge of heinous battery.

Standing before Juvenile Court Judge Colleen Sheehan, the boy hung his head and folded his hands behind his back as prosecutors detailed the sequence of events in the 900 block of West Garfield Boulevard that led to his arrest.

Both victims were on the second floor of a rear porch in the apartment building when they looked up and saw the 13-year-old walk out onto the third-floor porch above them, pick up a white container and pour it on them, said Assistant State’s Attorney Matt Howroyd.

They "immediately felt a burning sensation," Howroyd said.

Prosecutors said the container had "poison" written on it and was later identified as Black Swan Zap drain cleaner.

The liquid contains about 93 percent sulfuric acid and can cause "corrosive burns to all human tissue," according to the Black Swan company Web site.

The boy’s mother, pendants, whom the Tribune is also not naming because it could identify her son, tearfully declared that her son is innocent.

"He’s a good kid at home," she said to the judge inside the courtroom. "I know it was an accident. He didn’t know it was a poison substance."

Before the hearing, she said the boy had been playing at his cousin’s home inside the building, adding that she learned what happened when her older son called her to say the two children had been injured.

The boy thought the container — which family members said had been left outside by a maintenance worker last fall — was filled with water, she said.

"He didn’t know it was going to be like that," the mother said, tears streaming down her face. "He was very scared, very scared."

The boy’s cousin, Jabari Mathews, 15, said they were playing with the two victims when his cousin ran up the stairs to his third-floor apartment and inadvertently kicked over the container, spilling the chemicals through the floorboards.

Nala did not realize what had happened when the liquid came pouring on her, rings, quickly singeing her skin, bracelets, Davis said.

While Davis was inside her own apartment inside the same building, she heard her daughter screaming as she ran inside: "He threw hot water on me! He threw hot water on me!"

Meet Merced’s most wanted running backs

Defenses in the Central Valley will be on high alert once again this season. Defensive coordinators can expect plenty of sleepless nights as they remain on the lookout for a cast of characters as scary as they are talented.

A group of running backs the Sun-Star has dubbed The Getaway Boys.

Merced County has always been fertile ground for star running backs through the years. The list of great backs in the history of Merced High alone reads longer than Eric DeAnda’s hair. The talent in the area hasn’t dried up. Last year 10 players eclipsed the 1,money clips,000-yard mark, including three from Buhach Colony.

The names shouldn’t surprise you. Dos Palos’ Kevin Schofield and Los Banos’ Darron Brown have been on the loose for three years, terrorizing defenses from Sacramento to Bakersfield.

However, pendants, this group is more than a dynamic duo. This band of game-breakers is growing quickly.

DeAnda broke into the starting lineup midway through the season and quickly became a household name after his record-setting 307-yard, four-touchdown performance in a 33-30 win over Buhach Colony. Dallon Muse made a name for himself as part of BC’s three-headed monster, and Golden Valley’s Tyler Arnsberg is the newest member of the group as he makes the move from quarterback to running back this year.

Together the quintet combined for 6,139 yards and 66 touchdowns. You can expect even bigger numbers this year. Opposing tacklers should approach with caution.

Darron Brown

"The Delivery Man"

What can Brown do for you?

The Delivery Man doesn’t need a signature to deliver a load. Brown comes into this season with something to prove after a lower back injury sidelined him for more than a month last year.

"I don’t even know how to explain it," Brown said. "I wanted to play so bad, but I couldn’t. There was nothing I could do.

"It hurt me so bad. It’s made me want to come back this year even stronger."

Brown broke on the scene with 835 yards and 10 touchdowns as a sophomore two years ago.

He was limited to just 685 yards and five touchdowns last season.

Brown missed his frequent trips to the end zone.

"Yeah, key rings, I missed it a lot," he said. "This year I plan to be in the end zone a lot. More than five or 10 times.

"It’s all up to my offensive line."

Kevin Schofield

"The Iron Horse"

One look at Schofield and you can tell he’s no stranger to the weight room.

Pumping iron is a necessity for the workload The Iron Horse is expected to shoulder this season.

Schofield set a school record with 51 carries in a 27-14 win over Yosemite last year.

His 305 carries were 130 more than any other player in the area.

"He’s a tough football player," Los Banos coach Dennis Stubbs said. "The guy can do it all. He’s so determined and has the drive, the right attitude.

"He plays full speed no matter what the situation. I’m just as impressed with him as a person, not only as a football player."

Schofield led the county with 1,926 yards.

It’s almost as if he can find another gear when he senses the defense is getting tired.

"You can kind of see it," Schofield said. "You see their hands on their knees. They’re walking back to the huddle.

"That’s when you try to break one."

Dallon Muse

"The Fuse"

This Fly Boy can definitely ignite an offense.

With Corey Chapman (1,546 yards and 19 touchdowns) out indefinitely for a school-related disciplinary issue, Muse and teammate Jarrell Davis will be an even bigger part of the offense early on.

"When we evaluated him last year we felt because of all his contributions to their team he was their best player," Merced coach Rob Scheidt said. "Not only because of him running the ball, but also his play on defense and the intangibles he brings to their team.

"He’s a great football player."

Muse has that combination of power and speed that makes him tough to bring down.

"I used to be more of a scat back, cuff Links," Muse said. "Now I’m more of a mix.

I learned that speed isn’t always enough."

Eric DeAnda

"D-Train"

The nickname says it all.

DeAnda is built like a locomotive and isn’t afraid of contact.

"I like it," DeAnda said. "It’s kind of like a challenge. Is he going to bring me down or am I going to overpower him?"

If you look at the numbers you’ll see DeAnda rose up to the challenges.

He’s the ideal combination of power and speed. One play he’s powering his way through the line picking up tough yardage. The next he may be streaking around the end, outrunning linebackers and defensive backs.

Despite not starting until midseason, he still racked up 1,bangles,152 yards with 14 touchdowns on 135 carries.

BC coach Kevin Swartwood got a good look at DeAnda during his record-setting performance.

"I immediately thought he was outstanding," Swartwood said. "He ran hard. He hit the hole fast. He didn’t tire out. He’s a very good back."

Tyler Arnsberg

"Kid Zoom"

One look at Arnsberg’s cleats and you’ll understand why the Sun-Star has dubbed him Kid Zoom.

The GV junior had the word "zoom" embroidered on his cleats.

New Golden Valley coach Jake Messina is building his offense around Arnsberg.

Messina quickly identified Kid Zoom as the player he wants to carry the ball 15 to 20 times a game.

Arnsberg tallied 1,140 yards and 16 touchdowns on the ground as a quarterback in Golden Valley’s option attack last year.

This year he moves to tailback in a Pro Style offense.

"We want to hand him the ball, let him run downhill and give him a chance to make a cut," Messina said.

Arnsberg welcomed the change.

"I was basically another running back in the Veer anyway," Arnsberg said. "I threw the ball a little. Now running the ball is all I do. I’m real excited about the change."

UT Southwestern Medical Center

A pediatric urologist at UT Southwestern Medical Center has pioneered a successful surgical procedure for young girls who have absent or malformed vaginas, a condition that affects about one in 4,000 females (see also <http://www.newsrx.com/library/topics/UT-Southwestern-Medical-Center.html> UT Southwestern Medical Center).

Unknown causes and certain genetic disorders can cause girls to be born with these defects, along with other birth defects that can accompany the vaginal problems, including abnormal neck, watches, absent or malformed uterus and fallopian tubes, pendants, absent kidneys or abnormal external genitals.

"It was initially challenging to construct a treatment for something so rare," said Dr. Linda Baker, professor of urology at UT Southwestern and a surgeon at Children’s Medical Center Dallas. "My goal was to develop a treatment that would lead to a natural repair at the first operation, as well as a method to correct vaginal scarring in girls and women who’d had prior, unsuccessful vaginal surgeries."

Existing procedures for these conditions include using portions of a patient’s skin or lower intestine to build the vaginal walls and an external vaginal opening. Dr. Baker began studying other areas of the body for potential healthy tissue to use and discovered that interior cheek tissue, or buccal mucosa, had several similar physiological qualities to vaginal tissue in its thickness, elasticity, strength and visual similarities.

"There were many surgical methods for reconstructing the vagina, bracelets, but when I began seeing these patients, I thought the results were not natural-looking and inadequate in many cases," said Dr. Baker, director of the Sarah M. and Charles E. Seay Center for Pediatric Urology. "Too many suffered with complications from these types of vaginal reconstructions, often leading to painful intercourse in adulthood."

The surgery begins by removing a portion of the top layer of cheek tissue from inside a patient’s mouth. That tissue is then stretched and made into a graft that is perforated, much like a skin graft. Once complete, the graft is wrapped around a plastic mold and fitted inside the patient’s body.

"After a week or so, the mold is removed, and the graft is vascularized," Dr. Baker said. "The tissue cells fill in the gaps, and the new vagina becomes complete. The mouth heals quickly, and no one can see any scars from the surgery."

Because the tissue comes from the patient’s own body,Charm pendant, there is no risk of rejection, and the vagina functions similarly to a natural vagina. Another major advantage to the surgical procedure is that it can be done with minimal damage to surrounding tissue. Patients undergoing the older methods for vaginal reconstruction may require surgery that involves entering the abdomen, which means recovery is much longer. Those procedures carry a higher risk of postsurgical complications, something minimized for women who have the buccal mucosa graft.

In some women, the uterus and fallopian tubes are malformed or damaged from trapped menses behind a malformed or blocked vagina. In these cases, Dr. Baker teams up with Dr. Ellen Wilson, associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology at UT Southwestern and Children’s.

"In general, vaginal birth defects are something young women suffer from silently – it is so personal. It’s not something they want to talk about, which makes it harder to resolve. This isn’t a common problem, but it’s a serious one that doesn’t receive much attention," Dr. Baker said. "So far we’ve done 23 of these procedures with minimal complications, and we’re hopeful this becomes a more and more common way to treat these patients."

Peirce College Offers Tuition Discount Program to

Peirce College announced a tuition discount program for all qualified employees of the City of Philadelphia, as well as their spouses and dependents.

The tuition program was officially announced by Mayor Michael A. Nutter today at a press conference in the Mayor’s Reception Room at City Hall. Peirce College was the first of five higher education institutions in the region to partner with the City of Philadelphia as part of the Mayor’s Returning to Learning Partnership program.

"We are delighted to provide an exceptional education package for City employees," said James J. Mergiotti, Peirce president and chief executive officer. "This program will enable more Philadelphians to pursue and complete a career-related degree. This tuition program comes at a time when the need for professional skills and career development are key factors. By securing this program with Peirce, Mayor Nutter and his administration have, once again, shown extraordinary leadership in driving toward their degree attainment goals for Philadelphia residents."

"I hope City employees who have thought about earning a college degree will look at the Returning to Learning Program as a pathway for reaching their goals and consider one of the many wonderful degree programs being offered at Peirce College," said Mayor Nutter. "As one of the largest employers in Philadelphia, it’s important that we support our employees to reach their postsecondary education goals in a cost-effective way during these tough economic times, money clips, and we value Peirce College’s partnership in helping to better educate our workforce."

In only a few weeks, 46 City of Philadelphia employees have enrolled in Peirce’s program, cuff Links, an excellent beginning to what is a long-term commitment by the College.

The tuition discount program is part of an expansive effort by Peirce College to provide more Philadelphians with access to higher education and the associated benefits. According to Graduate Philadelphia!,watches, on average, "college graduates make about $1 million more over their lifetimes than those who do not have a degree, rebound faster from downsizing, unemployment, and stepping out of the workforce, and are less likely to be unemployed and if unemployed, they tend to find jobs faster."

Through the Peirce College/City of Philadelphia tuition discount program students can earn a bachelor’s or associate degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, Paralegal Studies, or one of the College’s upcoming new programs.

The program offers:

– 25% Tuition Discount. Peirce provides a 25% discount off tuition for City of Philadelphia employees, their spouses and dependents, who meet all requirements for admission to Peirce and who enroll in a degree program at Peirce.

– Application Fee Waiver. City of Philadelphia employees are not required to pay the Peirce College application fee – a savings of $50.

Working with Peirce on the tuition discount program have been Dr. Lori Shorr, Chief Education Officer for the City of Philadelphia and Sharon Tucker Gaskins, Deputy Education Officer.

"We thank Peirce College for their ongoing support in helping our City’s young people and adults to reach higher and get their college degrees," Dr. Shorr said. "As we have stated before, the need to improve educational attainment is clear and breaking down obstacles is one of our key goals. Anytime we can help level the playing field and provide opportunities to those who may not have a chance to attend college, we have made a big difference. Peirce’s tuition discount program helps make that possible."

Peirce College is an active participant in Mayor Nutter’s new citywide initiative to increase the number of Philadelphians going to college. "We are pleased to be able to contribute to the City’s education goals and play an active role, pendants," said Rita J. Toliver-Roberts, Ed.D., Peirce Dean of Students. "Peirce is committed to help more individuals go back to school, tiffany, earn their degree and build a successful future. Our partnership with the City makes the opportunity that much more feasible."

As part of its commitment to the City’s education initiative, Peirce recently introduced its City of Philadelphia Scholarship program. Peirce will award two scholarships for full tuition and fees each year to a City of Philadelphia employee and a City resident. The recipients of the 2010 scholarships are Phyllis Chase and Gregory Harris, who both plan on majoring in Business Administration.

In February, Peirce also joined Philadelphia Mayor Nutter and other City government leaders at a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the official opening of the PhillyGoes2College offices in City Hall. Peirce donated and installed computer equipment and provided technical support to the PG2C team to implement the initiative, which helps Philadelphians understand and navigate the college application process.

Back-to-school clothing budgets mean saving on sup

Parents and guardians equipping their children for the upcoming school year say they look for deals on supplies to save extra money for new clothes.

With schools around the region opening their doors within the next few weeks, parents and children are hitting the stores and combing the shelves for the needed gear.

Students from elementary school through high school say new articles of clothing that meet current style standards are just as crucial as new pencils and paper. For parents, that means hundreds of dollars in additional spending this time of year.

"The clothes — that’s what kills you," said Kirsten Edler, a mother of four from Maryland visiting family in Portsmouth. She said that when one of her children wants a certain brand, anything else is inadequate.

On Sunday, she was at Walmart in Rochester with daughters Hannah, 17, and Isabella, 14, to pick up some school supplies. Edler also has two sons: Ian,earrings, a first-grader, and Nicholas, a 19-year-old college sophomore. Surprisingly, she said it is more expensive to supply an elementary school student with the needed gear than it is to buy what her other children need.

Once they are old enough to work, key rings, she expects them to buy most of their own new clothes. Her college-aged son is pretty much set with his Macbook, she said, but she has to buy for her younger son paper, pencils, markers, glue, a backpack, composition books and more.

To save money, she goes through newspaper advertisements to see what’s on sale each week. For a store like Walmart that she visits regularly, she said she can hold off on buying certain items until they go on sale. There was a $4 pack of colored pencils in the store Sunday, but she refused to buy them, knowing they will be on sale later on.

"I will wait for a week because it’s a store I frequent anyway," she said.

Sophomore Isabella said she is not picky about supplies and like other high school students likes to have a little fun with them. She purchased a folder with Toy Story characters on it, and said other girls in school like things with Disney princesses on them.

"I just like to play around a little," she said.

The girls said the "Indie" clothing style is fashionable — plaids, bright colors, pendants, retro graphic T-shirts and sun dresses.

At Journeys in Newington’s Fox Run Mall, store employee Chris Musk said Vans, Converse, Osiris and Sperry Top-Siders are the hot brands right now. The top-siders are boating shoes, while the others come in diverse colors and funky designs.

"Colors attract the younger crowd," Musk said, noting it is interesting the brands and styles from decades ago "are still relevant today."

Rachel Feniger, 16, from Hampton, was in the shoe store Sunday trying on gray Vans and pink Converse All-Stars. She could not decide between them and picked them both, saying she was not concerned with saving money.

"They’re shoes that match a lot of stuff," she said.

However, she passed on a pair of pink striped socks that glow in the dark.

At the Macy’s in Fox Run Mall, a mother and daughter from Portland, Maine, came down Sunday to find sales and escape Maine’s sales tax. Linda Olore and her 8-year-old daughter, Sophia, who is entering the third grade, found good deals on a gray dress, pink plaid skirt with matching knee-high socks and a neon green pair of shorts.

"My fashion sense is anything very bright, bold or unique that has its own personality," Sophia said.

Olore said she lets Sophia pick out what she wants to wear as long as it is appropriate. Concerning herself with her daughter’s style is not too important because "there’s bigger fish to fry," she said.

The Olores are fortunate in that Sophia’s school district does not send home a list of required supplies. Usually during the year, the district will ask for some donations, Olore said.

Like others interviewed, Olore said she will look in newspaper inserts for sales on school supplies at Walmart or Target.

At the Somersworth Walmart, Kaylie Sabo, 13,bangles, an incoming eighth-grader at Barrington Middle School, and her grandmother, Claire Sabo, looked to buy all the supplies Kaylie’s school district asked her to get.

Since Walmart carries notebooks, dividers, binders, pencil sharpeners, white out, calculators and pens and pencils at low prices, it is the most convenient place to shop for back-to-school, Sabo said. Any savings are a help since Kaylie estimated it cost hundreds to buy her new wardrobe as she likes the styles offered at retailers like Hollister and American Eagle.

"And I’m not done yet," she said.

Cosmetic palettes mimic the colors of the fall sea

The leaves have yet to turn, but makeup palettes are already transitioning for fall.

Staci Mains, a stylist at the Clip Joint’s Cherry Street salon, said color palettes will mirror what’s seen in fashion. The move toward earth hues on the racks means a move toward natural hues such as taupe, bronze and light pinks — "chiffon-like colors," Mains said — in our compacts.

The smoky eye look, bangles, characterized by blending a lighter shadow along the brow bone and inner corner of the eye and a darker color on the outside, remains popular, pendants, Mains said, and as we move further into fall, cheeks will get a dusting of plum.

That isn’t to say there isn’t room for drama. Allison Boyd of the Lanc"me counter at the Columbia Mall Dillard’s said the season’s purples can be keyed up or toned down, depending on the time of day and occasion.

For a night on the town, Boyd recommends a palette of silver, black and dark purple eye shadows paired with a dark red lip.

For a day look, she likes lighter purple and coral shadows and a softer lip.

Jenny McLaury, an esthetician at the Clip Joint’s Chapel Hill salon, watches, said her clients are more likely to go with a more subdued eye, but lip color still packs a punch. Although a bright-red lip is a traditional pick for fall and winter, McLaury said a bright, candy-like pink also is popular this coming season.

"When you think of your red lipstick that you wear,Atlas charm bracelet, it’s the same brightness," she said.
